The following are crisis hotlines and drop-in centers for the homeless / unhoused and other individuals in need.

Crisis / Shelter Hotlines

Coalition For The Homeless: 1-888-358-2384. Call this hotline for shelter or other critical needs. The Coalition for the Homeless also provides a wide range of services such as support for domestic abuse, evictions, and disability rights.

Safe Horizon Homeless Youth Hotline (for young people up to age 25): 800-708-6600

Safe Horizon Domestic Violence Hotline (for victims of domestic violence seeking shelter): 1-800-621-4673 (1-800-621-HOPE)

Crisis Text Line:
New York State has partnered with Crisis Text Line, an anonymous texting service available 24/7. Starting a conversation is easy. Text GOT5 to 741741.

OASAS HOPEline:
New York State’s 24/7 problem gambling and chemical dependency hotline. For Help and Hope call 1-877-8-HOPENY or text HOPENY

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline:
If your life or someone else's is in imminent danger, please call 911. If you are in crisis and need immediate help, please call: 988

Domestic Violence:
If you or someone else is in a relationship is being controlled by another individual through verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, or other tactics, please call: 1-800-942-6906

NYC WELL:
New York City’s free, confidential support and crisis intervention for anyone seeking help for mental health and/or substance misuse concerns, available 24/7. Text “WELL” to 65173 or call 1-888-NYC-WELL.

National Runaway Safeline: 1-800-786-2929 (1-800-RUNAWAY). The National Runaway Safeline is designed to “listen and offer confidential, non-directive and non-judgemental support.” and “help you handle a crisis and guide you to solutions that will improve your situation.”


Drop-In Centers

Many drop-in centers are open 24/7, including on holidays, and offer services that can meet immediate needs, such as hot meals, showers and laundry facilities, counseling, and job assistance. Most often, drop-in centers have chairs that you can sleep in. However, drop-in centers are not shelters and do not provide beds to sleep in.

Shelters

To apply for shelter, you’ll need to go to an intake center first. Make sure you go to the right intake center depending on your age or family situation. Intake centers are open 24/7, including holidays. Bring your documents with you. Youth ages 14-24 can visit a drop-in center for emergency shelter referrals/help.
